From next year on food labels English there should be a "traffic light labeling" with the aim of putting an end to the confusion of consumers and enable them to make more informed choices and quick.

For years in Britain discusses the labeling of food and the need to help consumers make more informed choices for reducing the amount of fat, salt and sugar. Some distribution companies such as Tesco and Sainsbury's have already adopted systems similar to that of the traffic lights, imitated by many chain restaurants and hotels.

The health department of the British government, after discussions with representatives of manufacturers and supermarket chains, has called on the GDO, in the first half of 2013, to use the traffic light colors for nutrition.

The initiative was welcomed with enthusiasm by Charlie Powell, director of the Children's Food Campaign, who said of the decision: "Finally, no more need to be an expert to choose healthier foods."

Even Anna Soubry, Minister of Health, has intervened, explaining that: "Britain already holds the European record for number of foods that bear on the main facade, a nutrition label, but many studies have shown that this is in spite of the consumer often feel confused when trying to read written too specialized and hard to understand the above, it is also a large number of labels too different. This will contribute to the fight against obesity, which costs us billions of pounds every year and could be effectively countered with small everyday gestures like a wise choice at the supermarket. "

THE NEW LABEL TRAFFIC

Through color-coded green (when the quantities are in line with the recommended daily amount), orange (when the quantity is the limit), red (when that nutrient is in quantities too high), the new system will inform you with a form clearer on the amount of fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, salt and calories that contains the product and then it is advisable to consume more or less restraint.

In addition, the labels will include guidance on the recommended daily allowance amount of each substance with the word high, medium or low.
