Posted by Alzheimer's Disease International (UK , " The global impact of dementia 2013-2050 " is a document that updates the data on the distribution of Alzheimer's organization in the world.

The current economic cost of dementia is $ 604 billion a year ( 2010). These costs will increase in proportion to the spread of disease, particularly in countries with low and middle income countries. The organization reports that " the best estimates indicate that 10% of all dementia cases can be prevented by improvements in public health . Campaigns against smoking , inactivity, obesity , hypertension and diabetes should be given priority , as well as education and cognitive enhancement . dementia should be declared a public health priority . "

The main recommendations and conclusions:

The new data have shown that the burden current and future impact of the epidemic of dementia has been underestimated , especially for the regions of sub- Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe.

10% of all dementia cases can be prevented
through improvements in public health .

The current economic cost of dementia is $ 604 billion a year ( 2010). These costs will increase at least in proportion to the numbers involved, in particular in countries with low and middle income countries.

The research must be a global priority
if we want to improve the quality and coverage of care, find treatments that alter the course of disease and identify options for prevention.

The lessons can be learned from the HIV epidemic in the relationship between success in research and the presence of established systems of care , access to diagnostic technologies and drug therapies in low- and middle-income countries .

Dementia must be declared a public health priority , initiating national debates regarding the future of the fund for the long-term care . So far, only 13 of the 193 countries have national plans in place against dementia.

All countries , not just those of the G8 must commit to comprehensive plans for collaborative action . International cooperation will be essential and there is a need for a global plan of action between governments, industry associations and non-profit organizations such as Alzheimer's .
