Supplements of vitamin D

A study presented at the annual meeting of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Elettrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) adds more credence to a growing awareness: the close relationship between vitamin D deficiency and neuromuscular disease.

"The research work done in the past years has shown that vitamin D deficiency is quite common in neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson's disease. This study riaffrema this correlation" said Ileana Howard, a member of the Board of AANEM.

Supplementation of vitamin D has been suggested to improve the functions in elderly patients at risk of falls, as well as in individuals with myasthenia gravis and Parkinson.

Essential for the absorption of calcium from the intestine and the utilization of calcium and phosphorus, vitamin D is essential for the health of at least 36 organs, including the bone marrow, colon, kidney, lung, prostate, retina, skin.
