People who eat while doing other activities (walking, working ...) run the risk of taking more food than you need during the day, which could lead to weight gain and obesity.

Jane Ogden, a researcher at the University of Surrey (UK), and colleagues enrolled 60 women in a study in which each was given to each of a cereal bar to eat in three different conditions. The first group was asked to look at a clip of five minutes of a popular sitcom while eating; the second group was asked to go around the hall, consuming the cereal bar; the third group was asked to just sit in front of a friend and have a conversation.
After the experiment, participants completed a follow-up and a taste test of four different bowls of snacks: chocolate, carrots, grapes and chips.
People who ate more snacks during the taste tests were those who ate the cereal bar initial walking; in particular, they ate five times more chocolate.

The study's authors warn that: "Eating can casually uninhibited or represent a form of distraction, causing you to overeat."
