Potassium supplements

Potassium is present in abundance in the banana, is a mineral that, according to previous studies, is effective in reducing blood pressure.

The United States Department of Agriculture recommends that women consume at least 4,700 mg of potassium per day. Sylvia Wassertheil-Smoller, Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York), and colleagues studied 90,137 postmenopausal women, aged between 50 and 79 years who had no history of stroke at the beginning of the study, an average of 11 years. With the subjects, with an average consumption of potassium in the diet of 2,611 mg / day, the researchers monitored the consumption of potassium, and the incidence of stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic) and mortality during the study period. The analysis of the data revealed that women who took more potassium were 12% less likely to suffer from stroke in general and 16% less likely to suffer an ischemic stroke than women who ate less . The women who took more potassium also had 10% less likely to die compared to those who ate the fewest. Among women who did not suffer from hypertension, those taking more potassium had a lower risk of ischemic stroke by 27% and 21% for all types of stroke.

The authors of the study conclude that: "The intake of potassium is associated with a lower risk of all types of stroke, and all-cause mortality in older women."
