Supplements of Griffonia simplicifolia

Griffonia simplicifolia is a plant native to the tropical regions of Central and West Africa, particularly Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo.

Is a woody shrub of large dimensions that can reach 3 meters in height, the seeds of which are similar to beans enclosed in pods, have discoid form with the surfaces a bit' convex, assume a reddish color more or less dark, depending the degree of ripeness; when the seeds have a diameter of about 2 cm, a blackish color, reach the highest concentration of active ingredients.

The seeds of this plant contain considerable amount of 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan), the precursor of serotonin. Serotonin is a major neurotransmitter of the nervous system and is involved in the regulation of mood, the feeling of hunger, sleep (serotonin is in fact, in turn, the precursor of melatonin) and other important functions.

Neurotransmitters are substances produced by the body at the level of the nerve cells (neurons), in order to communicate the cells themselves between them: the neurotransmitters convey the information, that from one nerve cell can thus be transmitted to the next.
The nerve cell is formed on one side by numerous ramifications (dendrites), and on the opposite side of an offshoot elongated (axon) which also ends with various ramifications. If we put in series two nerve cells so as to match the axon of a cell with the dendrites of the next, and so we continue with other cells, we obtain a succession of nerve cells that are grazed with their ramifications. In these contact points (synapses), transiting of chemicals, the neurotransmitters precisely, which connect the neurons between them and make possible the passage of the nerve impulse between one cell and another.

In the case of the neurotransmitter serotonin, the body synthesizes it, or the creation, starting from the essential tryptophan (called essential because the human body is unable to produce it, but it is essential to take it with food), the 5-HTP an intermediate step of this synthesis, therefore, through the hiring of Griffonia, rich in 5-HTP, you can naturally increase serotonin levels in the body.

The result of recruitment of 5-HTP is an effect of rebalancing of mild to moderate depression, facilitation of sleep and containment of anxiety and nervous hunger (in particular, of craving against carbohydrates). Mood disorders, insomnia and eating disorders can be caused by a malfunction in the transmission of nerve impulses between neurons, and this defect is often originated from a lack of serotonin, so integration with Griffonia promotes endogenous this neurotransmitter, restoring a normal condition. The effectiveness of Griffonia simplicifolia in improving the mood has been demonstrated in numerous studies and clinical trials, carried out at the international level.

The 5-HTP supplied by Griffonia did not reveal, even at high doses, effects collateriali; Griffonia also has the added advantage of not lead to tolerance or addiction.

Griffonia simplicifolia has been discovered in recent years dall'erboristeria and Western herbalism.
