Supplements to help you sleep

We live in a world where the natural rhythms of light and darkness, day and night, they have no value. We rise with the strength of the alarms, we reload with coffee and energy drinks, we sleep late and rest maybe even evil.

According to a U.S. survey has just ended, 63 percent of Americans do not sleep enough. And, looking around, we may well think that the same is true for Europe.

"The majority of people need about 7.8 hours of sleep per night. There are very few people who need it least. There are some who think they are just enough 4, 5 hours a night, but what they are really doing is age at an accelerated pace, "said André Berger, MD, author of" The Beverly Hills Anti-Aging Prescription. "

Lost sleep causes unpleasant consequences:
loss of mental sharpness and memory, impaired concentration, short-term health problems, accelerated aging in the long run.

To begin with, sleep is essential to keep in shape the immune system. Who has not caught a cold when he was tired and debilitated? "Processes different nerve within us restore mind and body during sleep," says Dr. William Kohler, medical director of the Florida Institute of Spring Hill, Fla. "The immune system is one of them. Without enough sleep you can not restart the system. "

There are also consequences for the cardiovascular system, including short-term effects on blood pressure and circulation. In the long term the situation worsens. In a study published in the European Heart Journal, researchers at the University of Warwick have found that long-term sleep deprivation can cause heart attacks and strokes. Monitoring was attended by 500,000 people in eight countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, for a maximum of 25 years it has been shown that less than 6 hours of sleep per night increases the probability of 48 percent of dying from heart disease and 15 percent of dying from stroke.

"Sleep is the essential basis for good health and cognitive performance," says Dr. Berger "The scientific literature is full of dozens of studies showing that a number of hours sleep deficiency leads to reduced mental clarity." Among the most dramatic consequences that correlate those incidents with sleep deprivation.
Lack of sleep can also have aesthetic consequences. In a recent study, researchers in a sleep laboratory in Stockholm, have compared patients who had a good night's sleep with patients who have been deprived of sleep. The results? Simple! Patients deprived of sleep seemed to be less healthy, less attractive. Physical characteristics such as pale skin, dark circles, puffy eyes and rosy cheeks is not likely to occur in just two days of sleep deprivation, says Michael Breus, Ph.D., a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders.

Solutions to help you sleep:

Getting enough sleep should be a priority conscious, says Dr. Berger, and the best way to achieve this is quite simple: plan ahead. "I try to get people to spend time preparing to sleep, especially in calm, relieving some of the symptoms that might otherwise keep you awake," he says. It is often useful to create a simple ritual before bed, like taking a hot bath, read ...

Having a pet in bed with you or another person in the room snoring can affect the quality of sleep, as well as the intake of too much caffeine and alcohol.

Speaking of drugs, sleeping pills are useful? No, say the experts. Sleeping pills are likely to do more harm than good and often lead to psychological dependence
."By giving sleeping pills, doctors are doing their damage, because it could instead simply teach them how to sleep better," says Dr. Breus.
