There are many studies that claim that vitamin C has a protective effect for smokers and for those who are forced to endure the smoke. Here are some after several studies that show a correlation between the daily intake of vitamin C to reduce cardiovascular risk:

Vitamin C for smokers

In an article published by the American College of Nutrition scientists have shown that people who take adequate quantities of vitamin C are less likely to develop heart disease. The study was conducted on 108 smokers by comparing the risk of developing ischemic heart disease. Smokers were divided into two groups based on the amount of vitamin C taken daily. Were separated a number of variables such as weight, blood pressure, previous medical history: it was found that those taking the highest quantity of vitamin C were 33% less likely to develop an ischemic disorder than others. In the course of a study conducted in the Netherlands and published in the journal Neurology, researchers found that taking vitamin C can reduce the risk of heart attacks. The researchers examined a group of 5,000 people for more than six years, the group taking a larger quantity of vitamin C (more than 133 mg daily) resulted in a significantly lower incidence of heart attacks. Even more significant is the result of smoking, among them, those taking vitamin C showed a lower rate of heart attacks by 70% compared to smokers who did not take vitamin C.

Vitamin C for passive smokers

A study published in Nutrition and Cancer reports that non-smokers can reduce cell damage from passive smoking taking vitamin C.
This was demonstrated by comparing a marker of oxidation, the F2-isoprostane, in two groups of non-smokers. One group was given a dose of vitamin C per day, while the other just a placebo. When the researchers analyzed the levels of F2-isoprostane in the two groups, the group that had taken vitamin C showed a lower level of 11%, reflecting a decrease in damage to cell tissue. Even in this case, scientists have recommended intake of a daily dose of vitamin C.

The researchers concluded that vitamin C is positively associated with heart disease in smokers, and that all smokers should take an appropriate amount of vitamin C every day. The smoke, wineskin to expose the body to risks of pathologies, also reduces the absorption of vitamin C, which is required for the recruitment of a larger quantity.

Not only that, it is important to your daily intake of Vitamin C for non-smokers and if they are forced to endure second-hand smoke, which is not. Read why
