Your friends can know you better than you know yourself. Personality traits that perceipscono to 20 years provide important information about how you will live, and your friends can judge these traits better than you. And 'what emerges from the report published by researchers in the journal Psychological Science.

"Friends are the best predictors of your longevity to you" says Madeleine Leveille, professor of psychology at the Avery Point campus of UConn. Or at least they have a clearer picture of the traits of your personality.

Using data from a study of personality that was started in 1935, a team of researchers, including Leveille, found that men who were rated highly conscientious, the average ratios of five close friends, lived longer than men classified as less conscientious and responsible. For women, the pleasure and emotional stability were associated with longer lifespans. "The effects of these personality traits were very clear, a strong correlation, as that between smoking and lung cancer," says Jim Connolly, a forensic psychologist co-author of the paper.

Why conscientiousness is so strongly linked to longevity in men? It may be that men conscientious are more likely to do regular exercise, eat well and avoid risky behavior. For women, agreeableness and emotional stability can help them avoid the negative health consequences of depression and anger.

The key difference between this study and other relevant is the use of personality assessments made by close friends, rather than by the participants themselves. "You aspettiche friends are inclined to see you in a positive way, but are also keen observers of personality traits dangerous, that could send an early death," says Joshua Jackson, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Washington.
