Despite an increasing sensitivity to issues of wellness and prevention, there are still many people who ignore the usefulness of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are substances that neutralize free radicals and protect the body from their negative action. Free radicals are molecules produced naturally by the body during normal metabolic processes (molecules chemically reactive due to the presence of unpaired electrons) capable of damaging the cell structures and DNA.
Free radicals are produced by the body during the whole life, but to the 35/40 years of age the amount of free radicals that our body is able to independently dispose decreases substantially. We define oxidative stress is a direct result of the action exerted by high amounts of harmful free radicals on cells and tissues of the body.


Here is illustrated in more detail the chemical process of oxidation and in particular what happens all'interni of our body. To get an idea visible and simple oxidation of what it is, just take an apple, cut it in half and leave it for a few minutes resting on a floor: the pulp will become darker due to its oxidation.


 

Oxidizing factors: stress, smoking, pollution, alcohol, unhealthy diet (especially excess saturated fat), toxic chemicals, ionizing radiation, X-rays, ultraviolet solar, very strenuous physical exercises, drugs (especially antibiotics)


To get the right amount of antioxidants daily a person with a healthy lifestyle (NON smoker, NOT stressed, NOT drug user, DO NOT hog fat, DO NOT drink alcohol, NOT a lover of tans) should take about 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each of 200/250 grams.A person with a lifestyle less correct should assume a greater amount, because the greater the production of free radicals that the body is not able to dispose of.


This abundant intake of fruits / vegetables is in most cases difficult to manage, hence the use of integration. Recall that the integration does not replace a healthy diet, but it was the completion, required for substances that our body is unable to synthesize or to take in sufficient amounts from food.
